I find this to be completely entertaining.

An apparent perk of being short

I'm not sure about this study.

If I used plastic bags for my groceries...

...I'd give this a try. How cool?!

Hard-boiled eggs make me really gassy

but this is cute:

It's Monday

And that means it's time for some random posting!

Harry Potter

I don't know why I waited so long to read these books. I'm such a doofus. They're amazing, and right down my (Diagon)alley (heehee), i.e. precisely the type of literature I enjoy reading: Fantasy fiction. I told myself that I couldn't watch the rest of the movies (I watched the first 4) until I finished reading the books and I just started the first one this week...

...and I'm almost done.

Maybe I'll get through them faster than I thought and still be able to watch the final one in the theatre like a loyal Harry Potter fan!!!

On a side note: I highly recommend reading The Happiness Project . It has totally motivated me to take the steps necessary, whether big or small (because they're all important), to find true happiness in my life. And I think it is also a huge reason as to why I've had this huge desire to purge lately!

Like!

Got milk...kids?

Ridiculous?

It's true...

...this is awesome.

Growing up, I found snorting really funny, as did my siblings. I don't know what it was. The accidental snort while laughing automatically meant a good laugh, followed by either more accidental snorting, or purposeful snorting, in that those snorts had the sole purpose of keeping us laughing. Ugh, my abs hurt the way they did from laughing that hard, just thinking about it!

I was never good at snorting, not that it's a huge skill or anything. I just couldn't manage it, unless it was by accident (at which time, I'd feel embarrassed because really, who wants to snort when they laugh?). This year, to amuse my son, I gave it a try and I now, can do it! And, he finds it really funny. Win, win! He's also starting to learn to do it too, both by accident and on purpose. Win, win, win! Too funny.

Alas, they're sold out...

Thinking about calling in sick and hanging out at the mall on Thursday

I cannot begin to tell you...

...how much news about The Hobbit excites me...

Something's happening...

...I'm thinking about joining the Twitterverse and I have no idea how it works. I just feel the need to dive into something I know nothing about! I'm craving something new!

Should I? Shouldn't I?

I think I want to think up a name that isn't my usual, "TREEH". Hmmm...

It's all about space engineering

Over the years, I have learned that it is very easy to accumulate stuff. You have a space and you just fill it up with stuff, stuff you need, stuff you don't need, stuff you want, stuff you don't want...

We have come to a point where we have way too much stuff and not enough space for that stuff. We also really need to purge (really really need to purge) and I'm working on finding some time for that. In mentally purging, which seems to be my new hobby, I'm also setting aside a pile for a garage sale...and since that pile gets bigger and bigger, I think we could make a killing. (Now if we could just hold a garage sale...our complex doesn't allow them. Boo.)

Anyway, often, when people have too much stuff, the first thoughts are either to purge or to find a bigger space. Part of me thinks that a bigger space would just mean accumulation of more stuff though. Maybe we could downsize to something like these spaces (I'm not serious, but how awesome!!).

Videos...

Gotta love Tom Hanks...

And because we just can't get enough of sweet, sweet proposals...

I think about things like this at least once a week

...and then I dream about them too every so often. Those are very strange mornings.

He always did give me the creeps

The Office has a new boss. He gives me the creeps, and that's not just his character on The Office. I think he's been giving me the creeps since Pretty in Pink. Luckily he won't be on every episode since he's the new Kathy Bates on the show. I will say, though, that his interaction with other characters on the show is quite entertaining.

Today's turning points

I was pretty grouchy today. It was my first day back to work after being off for week and a half and on vacation. Days like this are known to be challenging.

Mr.S and I slept pretty late cleaning up our the vomit excreted by our suitcases. Dirty laundry and clean laundry, folded and unfolded was everywhere, in addition to other things we unpacked from vacation. Mr.S was sweet and let me sleep as I put D-nut to sleep, so I got a bit more sleep than he did, even though he hasn't been feeling well. The smoke detectors in our house were going off sporadically throughout the night, and driving us crazy, especially since they were also waking D-nut up from what we were hoping would be a peaceful night of sleep. So you can imagine this morning was a doozy.

Waking up early and rushing to get the day ready for the baby boy proved challenging and we ended up commuting to work together, which is usually a treat, only, we were running pretty  late. When we go to work together, we take Mr.S' route which is faster for him, since he starts earlier than I do, and which means I'm commuting a lot longer than I need to. But this morning, we missed the express bus, got on a regular one with a bus driver who was driving extra slow, and I couldn't even sleep because I was fuming because I wanted to be at work early and at that point, Mr.S didn't care if he was late, yet we were taking his route. Add to this, the fact that I didn't have breakfast. Me + no breakfast = ANGRY. I got off the subway early and walked to work and grabbed breakfast on the way.

Work, itself, wasn't too bad. I anticipated all I had to do to catch up so I wasn't surprised, plus my colleague is now going on vacation so we're switching covering for each other. We had a good meeting to fill me in on what I missed and what I have to get done for her while she's away.

Then my stomach growled. I got in touch with Mr.S to meet up with him for lunch, neutralize my feelings from this morning, take advantage of a nice day outside, and exchange back-to-work laments as well as words of encouragement to get through the rest of the day. It was nice. We decided that we needed to take D-nut downtown some time soon to chase dirty pigeons and seagulls all afternoon.

Then back to work. I just wanted the work day to end and it did sooner than I thought, which was nice. Then I waited for 20 minutes to get on a subway. You don't understand--the end of the work day is a race home for me to one of the best parts of my day: seeing D-nut's smile when I get home (or finding D-nut asleep which means I can get a few winks in) and catching up with whichever awesome family member(s) watched him that day. I really wanted to get home quickly. Then I finally got to the station for the bus and the bus literally drove away as I ran off the last step of the staircase. I think I mouthed the F-word. I hope no one saw me.

I got on a bus, read my book on the way home (which sped up the bus ride), got off at my stop and wanted to run home. Instead I thought I'd walk leisurely and admire the nice things that people do with their landscaping in the summer. As I walked through the neighbourhood, I saw one of our neighbours watering his lawn with his son and daughter. I hadn't seen them since last summer and they had gotten so big. As I got closer, the little girl told me three things:
1. "You must be a teenager!"
2. "Your skirt is really pretty!"
3. "I like your bag!"
to which all of my responses were "Thank you!" and a returned compliment. It was too cute! I wished I could have stopped to chat with her more, but I had another little boy to chat with.

And now I'm home. I think this day will stay a goodie from here on.

Meditation tips?

So after a brief discussion with various members of my in-law family last night about how I should give Insanity a try, I found it quite disconcerting that the main reason I feel I can't try it out is because I don't have time. They told me it's only 45 minutes and I sat there, mentally scanning my calendar for a 45-minute opening. And I know it's time that's stopping me, and not a lack of drive to do it, nor a fear that I can't do it. (I think I actually like things like this. P90X was pretty fun while I was doing it...until I moved. That meant a stop somewhere between 50-70 days in. Boo. My abs did the opposite of  continental shifting and formed into an abdominal Pangaea. It was sad.)

We just came back from a family trip to Cuba (more on that later for sure) and while there, I decided to suck it up (and in, literally, with "it" being my belly) and sport a few bikinis. A total eye opener. I hadn't tried on any of the ones I packed before we left and as I put some of them on, I realized two things:

1. My tummy isn't that bad (for now?), but I think I'll regret getting two navel piercings for the rest of my torso-bearing life unless I get them re-pierced, which wouldn't be until we're done having kids, which, in turn, wouldn't look good on a woman approaching her 40s. Maybe having a tight stomach would help me feel more confident?

2. Where did my boobs go? I had to repack a few of the bikinis I brought because my chest just couldn't stay comfortably concealed in them. Mr.S kept telling me I could wear them when I'm pregnant or breastfeeding again. Isn't that a pretty picture?

So, I decided that maybe I should just go for broke and work on my stomach until I'm flat as a board...a washboard perhaps? (Heehee.)

Anyway, I'm totally digressing.

I don't have 45 minutes. Why is that? What is it about being a working mother and having a 16-month old that makes me have no time for myself? And what is it that drains me so much that I lack the energy I need to get things done? Or is this all self-explanatory in a way?

Last night while I was trying to fall asleep, my mind kept stabbing at the idea of freeing 45 minutes in my day to do something, whether Insanity or some other activity (I have a few ideas). I remembered that when I first went back to work, and I was struggling with the beginnings of this challenge of figuring out the Work-Mom-Wife-Treeh balance, I gave meditation a try. I've been hearing a lot about meditation recently, as in, in the past few days. I think all roads are leading me to try it again...which requires another 10 or so minutes to free. I think that's easier than 45 minutes.

When I gave meditation a try a few months ago, I found it quite challenging. I kept falling asleep. Or my mind would race from this thought to that thought, from this task to that task. Or I'd stop and remember I was supposed to do something somewhere in that 10-minute time. Yeah, it wasn't working for me and so eventually, it didn't make its way back into my schedule.

But, this time, I'm willing to try again, only I'm not sure I know how to do it properly. I'm not sure how to train my mind to clear all thoughts, focus, look inward and stay calm. Where is my mind supposed to go? I know I need to read up more on meditation, but I was wondering -- if you have any tips, please share!!
